Welcome to the Dark Mountain Project – a new cultural movement for an age of global disruption.

We are a growing global movement of writers, artists, craftspeople and workers with practical skills who have stopped believing in the stories our civilisation tells itself. We believe we are entering an age of material decline, ecological collapse and social and political uncertainty, and that our cultural responses should reflect this, rather than denying it.

We are not an ‘activist’ movement seeking new ways to ’save the world’, but neither are we interested in ‘apocalyptic’ fantasies about the future. We are simply seeking to respond, as workers with the imagination, to the reality we see unfolding around us.  We aim to question the stories that underpin our failing civilisation, to craft new ones for the age ahead and to reflect clearly and honestly on our place in the world. We call this process Uncivilisation.

The Dark Mountain Project started in 2009 with a manifesto, and a set of principles for writers. In the summer of 2010 we published our first book, a collection of stories, essays, poetry and interviews. We held a festival in May of the same year.

If you like what you see here, please join us and help shape our direction of travel. The journey up the Dark Mountain stands or falls on what we all bring to the expedition.

Not all writers have the same opinion. Some people do not even believe what others write, most especially from the past. We cannot compel them because they have their own thoughts in mind that is why we should also respect them. Of course, some people write because they want to express what they think about a certain subject. But, others write and even produce blogs because they want to share to other people what they think.

For instance, they are advocates of some sort of change. But, not all seemed to understand it. That is the reason why they need to produce more audiences for their thoughts to be recognized. However, we should also remember that we cannot always be visible even if we should produce great contents. It is not a guarantee that we will obtain an online success. However, one of the greatest ways in order to be known to the online world is to select the best web hosting for our blogs. In that way, we could be able to make our website visible to the search engine, which will eventually lead to traffic. As a result, our ideas and beliefs will be known to the world.

These grand and fatal movements toward death: the grandeur of the mass
Makes pity a fool, the tearing pity
For the atoms of the mass, the persons, the victims, makes it seem monstrous
To admire the tragic beauty they build.
It is beautiful as a river flowing or a slowly gathering
Glacier on a high mountain rock-face,
Bound to plow down a forest, or as frost in November,
The gold and flaming death-dance for leaves,
Or a girl in the night of her spent maidenhood, bleeding and kissing.
I would burn my right hand in a slow fire
To change the future … I should do foolishly. The beauty of modern
Man is not in the persons but in the
Disastrous rhythm, the heavy and mobile masses, the dance of the
Dream-led masses down the dark mountain.
